Tirhildis

The dragon of the Luxembourg analog, in Septentria, where the Dwarves, the Empire, and the Rephaim meet. See Dragons document for how dragons, courts, Regents, and Seneschals work in general.

Name

Tirhildis (teer-HIL-dis). Her Draconic name is Tir-hili, from tir, "forest," and hili, "allure" or "beauty": the forest's allure. Four peoples live around her, and each heard her name as something of its own until it settled where all of them could claim it. The Elves hear their tir, "land." The Dwarves hear -hild, "battle," an old ending for a woman's name. The Empire hears -hildis, the Latin form its scribes have always given such names.

Where She Sits

Her court sits in the Luxembourg analog, bordered by the Dwarves (Germany), the Empire (France), and the Rephaim of Zephakim (Belgium). Her reach stretches north toward the Elves' toe of the Netherlands, and not many care to argue the point with her. She can fly to Silbriesti quickly and easily. It's much harder for the Elves to get to her.

Presentation

A green dragon, but never one green: leaf, moss, jade, and new-shoot greens mottled across her scales like light through a canopy. There's a touch of the praying mantis to her. Her forelimbs fold like a mantis's, she holds a hunter's stillness, and her narrow, angled head turns to follow whatever she's watching.

Breath

She has two. The first is fire, as with most dragons, but hers is closer to napalm than a gout of flame: it clings, and it keeps burning. The second is a knockout gas, a sleep-heavy cloud thick as pollen, as old a Fae trick as there is. It drops intruders without harming anything around them, so it's the breath she uses at home, among her trees and her art. The fire is for everywhere else.

Primal Magic and the Elves

Tirhildis casts Primal magic, the Elves' tradition, but she didn't learn it from them. She comes by it more directly, from the Fae. She has dealt with both Fae courts, Seelie and Unseelie, and both respect the power she commands. She owes the Elves nothing, but she and they are sympathetic to each other, and she is a friend to Silbriesti by inclination rather than obligation. See Silbriesti document.

The Green Court

Her court is the Green Court, centered on a living wooden ziggurat deep in a forest: a temple-mountain grown rather than built, still alive and still growing. The outbuildings around it borrow from the cultures that surround her, Dwarven, Imperial, and Rephaim, but every one has a definite wooden, artistic bent, as if each neighbor's architecture had been carved by the same hand.

Her Regent and Seneschal are both Elves, among the few who've made the hard trip from Silbriesti to her door. Her Marshal, who commands her guard and speaks for her arms, is one of the Rephaim of Zephakim, her Belgian neighbors.

The Hoard

Art from the old world: paintings, sculpture, tapestry, and finer work made before the Long War. It's the one thing in the world no one can make more of. Whether she remembers that world herself, or only collects it, nobody can say for sure.
