Wooly Mammoth
GM's Eyes Only
Spoilers. This page is written for the GM, and players who read on will learn things their characters don't know.
The great grazer of the tundra-steppe: food, transport, and the reason the Ice-Trolls fight. Made for Tir Hathar; see The Northern Reaches.
What it is. A shaggy elephant built for the cold, moving in vast herds across the open tundra-steppe. It grazes grass, sedge, and lichen, and strips bark at the forest's edge the way elephants do, which puts it in competition with the Pinebore at the treeline.
To the Ice-Trolls. The male Yeti follow the herds the way Plains hunters followed the buffalo. Mammoths are their food and their transport both, and a yeti riding a mammoth into a fight is a sight nobody forgets. The herds' grazing land is the territory the Ice-Trolls defend.

- Tusks and trample. It attacks twice, with tusks or by trampling. If it moves at least 20 feet straight at a target before attacking, anything human-sized or smaller that it hits makes a Physical save or is knocked prone.
- Herd. A herd that loses Morale stampedes, away from the threat or straight through it. Everyone in the herd's path makes an Evasion save or takes 2d6 damage.
- Mount. A trained mammoth carries a yeti, or a howdah with several human-sized riders, and fights alongside its rider. Calves use the Juvenile template from Creature Templates.
- Cold-built. Its fur and fat make it immune to ordinary cold.
Still open: playtesting the numbers.
