Clawfoot

GM's Eyes Only

Spoilers. This page is written for the GM, and players who read on will learn things their characters don't know.

A sickle-clawed, pack-hunting dinosaur, and a war mount for whoever can train one. Source: Eberron, Rising from the Last War, p. 289.

What it is. A two-legged dinosaur about as tall as a tall human, with a mouthful of sharp teeth and a sickle-shaped claw on each foot. It is fierce enough to bring down prey bigger than itself, and fiercer still in a pack.

War mounts. The same pack sense that makes it dangerous makes it trainable. A clawfoot takes to a rider the way it takes to a pack leader: quickly and eagerly. In Eberron the Talenta halflings ride them to war.

In Tir Hathar. One of Theria's smaller dinosaurs, alongside the Hornbeak Trask.

Stats

First draft, built from WWN's baseline stat lines.

  • Pack tactics. +1 to hit a target that another clawfoot is already fighting.
  • Pounce. If it moves at least 20 feet straight at a target and hits with its claws, the target makes a Physical save or is knocked prone. It can bite a prone target as an On Turn action.
  • War mount. A trained clawfoot carries one human-sized rider and fights alongside them. It counts as having the Trained template from Creature Templates.

Still open: playtesting the numbers, and who rides them. Suggested, not settled: the Lizardfolk, whose hold on Theria's interior is already built on living alongside its dinosaurs.
