Fastieth
GM's Eyes Only
Spoilers. This page is written for the GM, and players who read on will learn things their characters don't know.
A fast, skittish, human-sized dinosaur, bred as a mount for small riders. Source: Eberron, Rising from the Last War, p. 289.
What it is. A two-legged plant-eater with big eyes, strong legs, and brightly patterned scales. It is bred for speed, and nothing in its range outruns it over open ground.
Small riders only. A fastieth is too small to carry a human, but it carries a small rider with light gear easily and at a good pace. In Eberron it is the halflings' most common mount. Fastieths are stubborn, and an even-tempered one is prized.
Not a fighter. It would rather run than fight, but a cornered one bites hard.
In Tir Hathar. A riding beast of Theria.
Stats¶
First draft, built from WWN's baseline stat lines.
| HD | AC | Atk | Dmg | Shock | Move | ML | Inst | Skill | Save | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fastieth | 1 | 14 | +2 | 1d8 | — | 50' | 7 | 6 | +1 | 15+ |
- Quickness. Once per scene, as an On Turn action, it gets +4 AC until the start of its next turn.
- Small riders. Carries one small rider (goblin-sized or smaller) with light gear.
- Bolts. It checks Morale the first time it's hurt. If it fails, it runs, rider and all, unless the rider makes a Ride check (Dex/Ride) against difficulty 8.
Still open: playtesting the numbers, and who rides them. Suggested, not settled: the Kobolds, who share the Lizardfolk's territory and are the right size for one (see Lizardfolk).
